Horseless Carriage Club of America Travels
Through Ontonagon County

Ima Lerner Reporting

On Friday, June 13, 2008, twenty-seven antique vehicles (1909 to 1914) pulled in at the AmericInn in Silver City. The Horseless Carriage Club of America is a nationwide club that meets every other year for an extended progressive tour. The tours have been named "Red Rock Rendevous" as their very first progressive tour was to Red Rock Canyon near LasVegas, Nevada.
According to member Bob Most of Tampa, Florida, two years ago
he and other Model T enthusiasts shipped their cars to Italy and toured
the Italian countryside with their vehicles. Many members trailered
their vehicles to Biwabic, Minnesota and then drove to Bayfield, Wisconsin and began a counter-clockwise tour of Lake Superior.
Silver City was their second stop where they enjoyed a picnic and bonfire on the beach. The next stop for this group is the Quincy Mine and Eagle Harbor and then Munising, Michigan. One 1911 Stanley Steamer came from North Pointe, Michigan but the vehicle was originally from New Hampshire.
Don and Nancy from Vermont also trailered their Steamer to Minnesota.
Don's father got a Stanley Steamer in 1930 so Don grew up around
Steamers. The group travels between 100 to 200 miles per day. They
have no support vehicle riding with them.

What an experience to see these vehicles all in one place....models
included Stanley Steamers, Packard, Cadillac, Fiat, Peerless, Locomotive, Pierce Arrow, Marmon and Steven Dwyer. Usually one can only see cars of this prestige in museums or concourse car shows.
