Tuesday, June 17th. Today, the Arch to the Renaissance
Faire became a permanent fixture at Norrie Park. Dave
Suutala and a group of volunteers assembled and raised the
4000 pound arch to its permanent position beckoning all to
enter. Last year supporters of the fair asked Dave to
build an arch for the fair's entrance. The fair was a
great success and this year Dave was asked to build and
install a permanent structure. After 300 hours of
volunteer time the structure became a reality. The value
of the arch is approximately $10,000 which includes both
materials and labor.
Dave Suutala (Great Lakes Woodwork) provided the lumber
and wood work. The concrete was donated by Ironwood
Concrete and the labor for the concrete work was provided
by Ali Somers Concrete. The steel braces were fabricated
and donated by Cramblit's Welding.
Today, Dave was joined by volunteers A.J. Granroth, Jordan
Reller, Bruce Eppolite and John Suutala (Dave's Dad) .
The Renaissance Faire opens Saturday and runs through
Sunday.
