The Calumet Theatre at 340 Sixth
St. in Calumet presents legendary country superstar Crystal Gayle for one
show only at 7:30 p.m. Born in Paintsville, Ky., and raised in Wabash, Ind.,
Gayle followed older sister Loretta Lynn's footsteps, but while Loretta was
all country, Christal leaned toward the pop end of the country spectrum. In
1977 she scored her biggest hit with "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue." In
the following decades Crystal released nine Top 10 country albums, four of

HANCOCK, MI – The Finnish film “Letters to Father Jacob” is
the April selection of the Finlandia University Nordic Film
Series. The film will be shown Thursday, April 8, at 2:00
p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the university’s Finnish American
Heritage Center, Hancock.
Letters to Father Jacob (Postia
pappi Jaakobille) is a redemptive story of a blind, elderly
pastor and a hardened life sentence prisoner who has just

in Tanzania program will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Saturday,
April 10, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Hancock.
The Finland Calling 48th Anniversary Dance will take place
on Saturday April 10th. The event will be hosted at the
American Legion Clubrooms in L'Anse.
The event starts
at noon and music by the Pasicats will begin at 1:00pm and
end at 5:00pm. There will be coffee, goodies and door
prizes.
Tickets are $7.00 and can be purchased at the
door.
HOUGHTON - Tech Chess Club Offers Lessons for Youth. The
Michigan Tech Chess Club is teaming up with the
Houghton/Keweenaw 4-H to teach kids of all skill levels the
pleasure of playing chess.
Lessons will be from 2 to
4 p.m., March 20 and 27, and April 3 and 10, in the Memorial
Union Peninsual Room. Lessons are open to children ages
9-19. Cost is $10 for a 4-H membership fee (free membership
available if needed).
