P&Z Approves Kennel

Moves Forward on Master Plan

Ironwood - January 19, 2010

The Ironwood Township Planning Commission met again last to take up work on an updated Five Year Master Plan. The Commission Members discussed ways to get input from the community, especially from those people that own or operate businesses that would be affected by the plan.

The Commission members will begin by utilizing the current plan and a review of plans currently in effect for other political sub divisions.

The plan will cover manufacturing and commerce, but have its emphasis on recreation, both motorized and non-motorized.

Brad Noren would like commissioners to consider placing web cams on top of Copper Peak with a link to the Township Website. Brad believes that visitors to the site would be impressed with the beauty of the area.

The board will be meeting for the next 4-5 months to work on the plan.

Mark Elsemore , a Sandene Road resident, requested a conditional use permit. Elsemore wishes to operate a small kennel on the property. He already has 7 kennels with four of his own Springer Spaniels in them. He wants to use the other kennels for boarding other people’s dogs.  He wants to keep it small catering to those people who have purchased his dogs. He told the commission Members that many people do not want to place their dogs in large kennels with many barking dogs that could stress their animals.

There was just one negative response regarding the kennel. It came from Marcy Esinberg, a resident of Brooklyn Park Minnesota. She owns property near Elsemore and objected to kennel for a variety of reasons.  However, Steve Boyd inspected the location and found everything according to code. Steve found no reason to reject the Elsemore request.

Brad Noren stated that there are people who want to do away with everything in Township, cows, dogs etc. and that they want to turn the Township into a Downtown New York City.

Ed. Note: That’s the same sick south-of-the-bridge mentality that slowly but surely destroying the City of Ironwood. Believe me Brad, Metropolitan New Yorker’s don’t care for those phonies any more than you do! Perhaps it was the name and Brooklyn that caught your eye.
