“LET’S GO TO THE HOP!”

Ironwood - February 2, 2010

The Klassic Kruisers Car Club and the Ironwood Knights of Columbus invite you to join them at “Let’s Go to the Hop!” this year’s annual winter fund raiser. This year’s dance is returning to the oldies sock hop theme and is set for Saturday, February 20, from 8 pm to midnight at the KC Hall, with live music by “Rewynd” sponsored by Quality Collision Center and Care-A-Van. Activities include a 50/50 raffle, karaoke, contests, and the world's largest silent raffle table featuring many hand crafted items and prizes donated by local businesses. The KCs provide refreshments. So fluff up your crinolines, dust off your leather jackets and saddle shoes and plan to join the Kruisers and the KCs for another evening of music, dancing, food and fun! All proceeds go to further the community support activities of the car club. Tickets are $5 in advance, $6 at the door, and are available at Ray’s Mobil in Hurley; Care-A-Van, Handsome Prints and Hitt’s Fine Furniture in Ironwood; Leather N Gift in Bessemer; and from Kruiser members.

The Klassic Kruisers Car Club has been in existence since 1991 and over the years has evolved from a small social group of guys interested in “old cars” to a community spirited organization of men and women and young people still interested in “old cars.” But it’s not just about the cars any more – it’s also about giving to the community, by participation in events and parades and by monetary donations. All fund raising efforts go to help the club carry on its activities to be able to make these donations.

>From the first Wednesday in June through the first Wednesday in September, club members gather for the weekly cruise to various destinations. The kick-off and grand finale cruise nights have been held at various locations in the Ironwood area, with a mini-car show open to the public, music, contests, and refreshments included in the activities. They have also participated in several grand opening celebrations for area businesses.

During the month of May, car club members make visits to the area nursing homes and provide musical entertainment by the Klassic Kruisers Krooners. The residents enjoy the music and really enjoy being able to see all the cars on display. The club also does a Christmas tour of the area nursing homes with karaoke singing of Christmas songs. A wonderful addition to this tour is the appearances of Santa and Mrs. Santa Claus portrayed by Walter and Anna Lessun of Ironwood.

The Klassic Kruisers run the “Car Show in a Pumpkin Patch” at the annual Bessemer Pumpkinfest in October. Each winter, several club members get together weekly for the woodworking project, with the finished project raffled off during the summer. And for several years, the Kruisers have been involved in the local Footprints Project by providing handmade oak burial caskets.

The Kruisers have been very active in Festival Ironwood over the years, sponsoring the Saturday night cruise and dance and Sunday’s car show, along with a lot of behind the scenes work.

The Kruisers have very popular prize winning floats in the area 4th of July parades and the annual Jack Frost Parade which is held on the first Friday of December every year, even bringing out a few of the cars, weather conditions permitting.

2010 officers are: Tom Ravelli, President (906/932-1865), Gene Clemens, Vice-President (906/932-0902), Linda Gustafson, Secretary (906/364-4064), Sharon Ravelli, Treasurer (906/932-1865), Richard Kolesar, Director (906/932-3418), Dan Rowe, Director (715-893-2230) and Del Penton, Director (906/932-4872). Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Tacconelli’s in downtown Ironwood. Membership is $20 per year per person or $30 for a couple and includes a monthly newsletter, a club cap, and club license plate. The club also has its own line of clothing featuring black jackets, bowling-style shirts, T-shirts and sweatshirts with the club logo in gold. For more information on joining the club, contact any of the officers, or come to a meeting. New members are always welcome – and you don’t have to own a classic car to be a member -- but it does add to the fun!

Special events and activities are already being planned for 2011 - the 20th anniversary of the Klassic Kruisers Car Club!
