Ironwood - February 3, 2010
Monday evening the committee for
organizing and running Festival Ironwood ’ met at the American Legion
Hall.
For many, many years to job of producing the Festival’ fell
mainly on Chris Bergquist and the Klassic Kruisers. After
seventeen years Chris feels that it’s time to pass the torch on to
others. The Kruisers would also appreciate some relief from their heavy
commitment to the event. Those attending last night’s meeting had to
decide whether to shut down the event all together, continue the event
indefinitely, or have one last great big hurrah!
This year is
Ironwood’s 125th Birthday. That is not 125th Charter anniversary but the
settling of the town, so-to-speak. Many people wanted to continue the
Festivale at least through this year to coincide with the city’s
anniversary. Others recognized that many out-of-towners come to Ironwood
during the Festival for class and family reunions among other things.
The group decided to continue with Ironwood Festival’ indefinitely,
at least for this year. At the helm will be Will Corcoran, proprietor of
the General Trading Company and Keith Johnson (Michigan Works). Gene
Clemens will head up the Kruiser’s effort. The 2010 Festival’
Ironwood will take place beginning Wednesday July 14th and will run
through Saturday July 17th.
NOTE: The festival’ has been trying
to get the Lowell Street Band to entertain at the Festival’, however the
group is so popular that they cannot perform until 2012!
