IRONWOOD - The Parks and Recreation Committee held a special meeting last evening to discuss a DNR Grant. The deadline for filing the grant is fast approaching. The notorious committee has only landed one recreation grant to date, and that was the Skateboard Park. IronwoodInfo worked behind the scenes to help get that grant through the DNR. Since then they (the Parks Committee) has failed to bring home the gold on at least three occasions. Watching this group in action explains all the past failures. Up until last night, special interest groups have dominated the Planning & Zoning Board and the Parks group. They have squandered away valuable time trying to move forward their self-serving pet projects, that cost so much, that the city cannot come close to meeting the required grant matches. Several years ago, Andy Hill wrote a front-page article for the Glob, which articulated just how poor our city government, had become. So much so, that even then, we could not meet the required grant matches. Today a bunch of south of the Bridgers who would spend our last penny for their own folly is railroading us. Literally millions for a few vs. the needs of the many. |

Last night the original plan was to apply for a million-dollar PLUS grant. The money would be to acquire Railroad Right of ways to plant Granola Trees on. Low and behold, the group (except for Annette Burchell) finally realized that we couldn’t afford 10% of the 10% needed to acquire the grant. From there the group discussed spending money on tennis courts and a new Pavilion at Norrie Park and playground equipment. They of course discussed the Miner’s Memorial Park sham. After discovering that the city can’t afford anything, the group decided that they would try for new playground equipment at Norrie Park. It’s both affordable and needed, maybe. The committee members will approach the Kiwanis and Rotary for donations toward the purchase of the equipment. The Committee Chairman, Sam Davey, stayed away from the motorized – Non-Motorized issue. |

Recently, both Davey and Mayor Bobby went on a snowmobile ride with members of the Gogebic Range Trail Authority. The purpose of the trip was to see first hand, the trails within the Caves Area. The GRTA members are attempting to show how proper trail planning will bring added dollars to our economy. Unfortunately both Davey and Burchell have pretty much decided who will get what trails. The very same evening of the Caves Tour, Mayor Bobby had a secret meeting with the "Silent Sport" people. Davey refused to disclose the details of that meeting when asked by an IronwoodInfo reporter. HMMMMM!
