Gema's Dilemma

IRONWOOD - Monday night Gema Lamb ambushed Ironwood’s motorized sports enthusiasts by making a motion to turn the universe into a Miner’s Memorial Park. She made the motion during the “other business” portion of the meeting. That way the topic did not appear on the agenda. She obviously has been waiting for the absence of the GRTA to make her move.

The maneuver was obviously planned at the secret meeting of the MMP people and Mayor Bobby. A secret meeting that Parks & Rec. Chairman Sam Davey denies.

Immediately following the meeting FMMHPPPHPP sent the members the following message:

Dear Friends,

Sam Davey and I attended the city commission meeting last night, and we have big news to report. Resolution 09-003 expired Feb. 17th. In discussing its renewal, the city commission made the following amendments, and a new resolution passed unanimously. This is the direction, authority and clarification we have been waiting for. Here are the parts of the resolution that have changed (old verbiage underlined and deleted, new verbiage in bold), all other paragraphs from former resolution unchanged:

Whereas, a not-for-profit entity is to be formed, the Friends of the MMHP, Inc., has been formed to guide the development and maintenance of the MMH Park; Now therefore, the City Commission is freezing the sale of all openly zoned and surplus properties in this region not to exceed one (1) year or until each city-owned parcel is identified, at which time city owned parcels will be brought back to the City Commission for further use consideration, and hereby authorizes the concept of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park the Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park to present a plan, in conjunction with the City of Ironwood Parks and Recreation Committee, to the City Commission, in a timely fashion.

As Gemma Lamb said, we are going from "concept" to "plan" to "park!" So the Friends will be sitting down with our Parks and Recreation Committee to collaborate on the next phase of the development of the MMHP. There is a grant application that is due April 1st that we are going to aim for, so we will get to work immediately.

Accordingly, I propose the following agenda for our meeting tonight:

1. Update on city commission meeting - Jackie
2. Information about grant proposal, need for help writing the grant - Sam
3. Plan to develop the plan for the city commission - Jackie
4. Activities committee - Monie
5. Other

See you tonight, or will keep you posted,

Jackie Powers

It’s good to know that Powers knew what Lamb was saying, no one else knew. Her description of the area to be covered by the resolution was to say the least vague. She later said the area to be described later, or a map to be described later. Later in the meeting when it became clear that everyrthing was obviously not clear FMMPHYTPPMM member Rick Semo tried to bail his co-conspirator out by taking on some of the blame. Residents in Hurley and Bessemer better double check to see if  Gema stole their land too.

Everyone left the meeting scratching their heads and thinking who the heck elected her?
