The Gogebic Economic Development commission met for their monthly
meeting last week.
At the beginning of the meeting Jeff Randall,
Bessemer Township Supervisor, addressed the Commissioner under Public
Comments.
Oddly enough, Mr. Randall, used his one and only
appearance at the Commission to question the Commission’s contract with
Donna Scorse. Specifically, he asked why there was a salary cap in the
contract?
He was advised that the contract was just as it were, a
contract mutually negotiated between the Commission and Donna Scorse.
One has to wonder, what was the motivation of his appearance? That
of course is a rhetorical question!
The number one item of discussion was of course the regionalization
of the Revolving Loan Funds. The state as our readers are aware is
attempting to regionalize the six funds in the Western U.P. While this
might seem like an unimportant thing to many people, it is far from
being unimportant.
On the face of it, you would think that Gogebic has nothing to lose.
After all, there will be just $2,000 remaining in the fund after the
next loan closing. However, those lines don’t die and go away. The
repayment money from those loans goes back into the fund, where
hopefully they will be used to fund another loan beneficial to the
County.
Unlike other units of government that have caved in to
the States extortion tactics, the County Commission has yet to
vote on the issue. The GEDC in their meeting last week voted
5-3 to go along with the Grand Theft Plan, not yet knowing if in fact
the State plan is legal. The County Commission has requested the County
Prosecutor to look into the matter before bringing it to a vote later
this month.
The City of Ironwood will approve the plan and throw
it’s $150,000 into the Regional pot, where it will be picked over and
used at the will of the Regional authority. WUPPDR, a parasitic layer of
bureaucracy will be the big beneficiary of this perhaps
illegal plan. WUPPDR is scheduled to be the custodian of the funds, and
will be receiving an immoral amount of the fund balance for nothing.
Kim Stoker, WUPPDR Director, claims to be “Just a messenger”. Hardly the
case, his bureaucratic organization will be getting unearned money for
the deal and Mr. Stoker himself, is under a personal services contract
with the Michigan Economic Development Commission (the Lansing
Banditos).
If you have what you believe is a valid reason for
supporting the theft of our funds, think about this, The MEDC has been
the overseer of our State’s Economic Collapse. For a commission
responsible for improving our state’s economy, they sure haven’t
performed at all well. You don’t have to be a graduate of Harvard
Business College to figure that one out.
