The sixth annual Michigan Small Town and Rural Development Conference is set for April 20-22, 2010 at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville, Mich. A welcome reception is set for the evening of April 20 for those arriving early. The conference will officially kick off at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 21.
 
Register now at  http://web2.msue.msu.edu/partners/registration.cfm to enjoy the “Small Town Stimulus” – a $25 savings from 2009 prices. The roll back registration price is $125 for the two-day conference if you register before April 9.

Three more breakout sessions have been added to the already robust listing. This conference provides planners, businesses and community members with great tools they can take back and put into action right away. Learn more about the conference at www.ruralmich.org.
 
Nearly 20 diverse breakout sessions have been secured. Three new sessions are:
Small Community Downtown Revitalization - John Iacoangeli of the architectural and planning firm of Beckett & Raeder will present on the Twelve Components for Downtown Revitalization, a presentation developed for the Michigan Downtown Association and tailored to address smaller towns.

Generation E: Building Young Entrepreneurs - Youth are a community’s pipeline to economic growth and sustainability.  How do we discover those with entrepreneurial passions, motivate them and unleash their entrepreneurial mindset.  Generation E will present their approach to community development through expanding youth entrepreneurship education.

Programs for Rural Communities - The Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, USDA Rural Development and the Federal Home Loan Bank will all have sessions on programs available to small towns and rural communities.
