Ironwood - July 17, 2009
This Saturday July 18th, the brave men and women of the Ironwood
Volunteer Fire Department (pictured above) will enter the arena to do
battle with other fire departments at the annual Fire Company's water
fights. The competition is being hosted by the Manitowish Waters Fire
Co. The event takes place at Noon this Saturday, at the Manitowish
Waters Community Center.
The event will serve as a warmup for the biggie. The 115th Annual
Upper Peninsula Volunteer Firefighters Tournament. This major event
takes place July 23rd through July 25th. The races will take place at
9:00am on Friday the 24th.
This year's event is taking place in Florence, Wisconsin. We've been
told that this will be the first time ever, that the event will be
held out side of Michigan. The U.P. Tournament is a great experience
consisting of races, other skills competition and and three, yes three
parades! The IVFD is famous for their marching, so don't miss it.
On On Sun. Aug 9th The Lake Gogebic Volunteers will be having their
annual Firemen’s picnic. Included in the activities are waterfights
which are open to the public for their enjoyment. Teams consist of
three members and fire departments may enter as many teams as they
like. There will be an awards for the winning team, along with
one-year bragging rights.
We've been informed by anonymous sources that the Ironwood Volunteers
are preparing for clean sweep of these events.
