Wakefield - August 4, 2009 It was just two weeks ago that
Robert (Bob) Linn asked the the Wakefield - Marenisco School Board
for permission to dedicate an existing Oak tree to his family. The
Red Oak stands in front of the Wakefield school where it was planted
twenty five years ago by Bob's brother. The tree was planted to
replace another tree which had died and had once stood just a few
feet away from where the new Oak would stand and grow through the
forth-coming decades.
Pictured above Ruth and June unveil the tree's new marker. |

The Linn family, which settled in Wakefield in 1893, has a
long history of producing Wakefield graduates. Ella Linn
graduated in 1914. The most recent graduate was Bob himself. Bob,
with 15 of his friends, left High School, prior to graduation. The
sixteen Wakefield students joined the armed services which were
fighting in WWII. In 2002 Bob received his High School Diploma, just
one year after his grandson, Michael. In 2002 the year of his
graduation, Robert Linn was named "Veteran of the Year" |

This year the Linn's would be holding a family reunion and
wanted to use the occasion to to dedicate that mighty oak. With the
board's permission, Mr. Linn had a small granite marker made and it
was placed at the site of the original tree, just a few feet from
the oak. |

The family had eighty-five members reuniting on Saturday in Iron
Belt. Sunday the family would once again gather in Wakefield. Sunday
Lake pavilion was the sight of the early morning get-together. At
the pavilion a family tree was present, where members added an
ornament with their name on it. Some members added ornaments in
memory of those no longer living. One such ornament was placed on
the tree by Bob's son, Robert Jr. in memory of Bob's son "Ralph V.
Linn" who died as a result of a 1973 motorcycle accident in the year
following his H.S. graduation in 1972. |
