								| February 8, 2009 - This past Thursday a reception was held at Finlandia's
Reflection Gallery. The occassion was to
introduce two of Finladia'a very talented
artists, D.C. Wilson and Lana Bosak. Both D.C
and Lana are four year full scholarship
students. One visit to the Gallery demonstrates
why these two two young artists are recipients
of their scholarships. Ms. Wilson is from Iron
Mountain Michigan and Ms. Bosak is from
Underwood, Minnesota. Wilson and Bosak have
chosen illustrating as their majors. The work on
display at the Reflections Gallery supports the
fact that they have chosen well.
The exhibition is title "Pigeons and Digabees"
opened on January 24th and will close on
								February 15th.  The exhibition showcases
two books that these young talented artists have
produced. Both books may be viewed on

								D.C. Wilson (Iron Mountain, Mich.)
and Lana Bosak (Underwood, Minn.), both
								junior-level Finlandia University illustration
majors, will exhibit their book illustrations
January 24 through February 15, 2009, at the
								Reflection Gallery, Hancock.

A reception for the artists will take place at
the Reflection Gallery Thursday, February 5,
								from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

								Bosak's book is titled,
								"Pigeons: A Coloring
								Experience."
She describes it as a silly
coloring book depicting different 'types' of
pigeons, everything from your normal every day
pigeon to pirate pigeons and French pigeons.

"I decided to do this because...well...pigeons
are funny and there are pigeons everywhere,"
Bosak explains. "I also have included a
hand-sewn six-foot tall squid in the show.
Pigeons and squids: an amazing combination!"

Bosak is from Minnesota and attended the Perpich
Center for Arts Education her senior year of
								high school.

Wilson's ink and watercolor children's book is
								called,   "Digabee Dugabee."

								 She explains that the
book is about creatures called digabees and
dugabees who work together to build a flower.

"Spring comes and these little creatures match
up with an opposite kind using the bright color
of their skin," Wilson says. "One yellow digabee
is without a dugabee partner, until another
digabee suggests that they break the rules and
pair up digabee-digabee. The two of the same
kind set out to build a flower for summer- only
to find out that the others might be against
								them."

Wilson says the story itself is a brightly
colored and rhyming narrative that focuses on
								friendship, determination, and acceptance of
different lifestyles. She says she's been told
that the book is fantastically cheery and
								horribly cute.

"I think it's very important to have a
children's book with the message of 'Digabee
Digabee,' Wilson adds. "Teaching acceptance and
unity is so much more important than teaching
rejection and hate. I hope my book is seen as a
good thing. I think it is."

Wilson is from Iron Mountain. She graduated from
								Kingsford High School.

Finlandia University. Reidenga, a sophomore from
Wetmore, Mich., is pursuing a dual major in
illustration and studio arts. Rachel Reidenga,
Reflection Gallery director, says "Wilson and
Bosak both display a wonderful affinity for
their chosen illustration careers." She added
that "In this exhibit they have used a variety
of techniques to express their creative outlooks
on the illustrative process. Their show promises
a fresh glimpse of Finlandia's future and
								ever-evolving studio artists." |
