Festival Ironwood - Kid's Day

IRONWOOD - Friday was Kid’s Day at Festival Ironwood. The day began at 9 am-with the annual Child Identification Program at the Masonic Lodge, the program is sponsored by Masonic Lodge 389

At 10 am the fun continued at the World’s Largest Duck Pick, 900 ducks had already been picked by closing time Thursday night. There would be 1600 more ducks picked by diner time Friday. There were a total of 2500 ducks picked and prizes given away. Three Bicycles were donated for the event. Two by European Auto on U.S. 2 and a third bicycle was donated by Keith Johnson. The Duck pick is a great big hit with the kids, there’s no doubt about that. The Duck pick at this year’s Festival was organized by HOPE Animal Shelter. All the money collected for the ducks is put back into a fund for next year’s Festival.

While on the subject of Hope, the animal shelter had a display of kittens at the festival. The adorable kittens need a home. Go to hope and bring home a pair. There was a great little Spaniel at the festival that could use a good home. Why no one has looked for this dog is a mystery. It was found in Marenisco. He has a great personality and is a perfect size. Go to Hope and check out all the Great Animals waiting to adopt you!

Kids Activity Day, organized by the Gogebic County 4-H Youth Group & other community partners. Kids kept busy playing games and making all kinds of things, including trail mix.
From 11 am to 2 pm Slow Poke Da Clown was on hand making animal balloons along with Happy Daze & Twinklz Face Painting.

Another kid’s favorite is the Kids’ Woodchip Scramble, where candy and money are buried in sawdust. They get scramble through the sawdust for three minutes, and what they find is theirs to keep. This annual event is sponsored by Woodtech Builders.
From noon until 3:00pm there was Bingo under the big top. The bingo games were sponsored by DOVE Bingo

There was a Parts swap meet behind Lahti’s. The “ Alley Cat Garage Car & Bike Parts Swap Meet” was organized by several downtown merchants.

At 4:00 PM the Adults attending the Festival were treated to a live musical performance by Dorothy and The Boys,. The group played a mix of musical styles, including Polkas and Country music for dancing. The crowd began to grow as the after went on and by six o’clock the big top was again filled.

Following Dorothy and the Boy’s the free musical entertainment continued. Appearing under the big tent was a North Country Hoe-Down starring Johnny Trash & Jimmy Lee, free admission to the event was compliments of the Downtown Ironwood Development Authority
