Marenisco Hosts German Youth Orchestra

Friday and Saturday evenings the Marenisco Heritage Festival featured concerts by the fabulous Youth Orchestra from Wertingen Germany. The town of Wertingen has a population of 8.990 and lies in the middle of an area known as the Zusamtal.

Every four years The Stadt Wertingen committee has the opportunity to visit the Blue Lake Fine Arts camp of Michigan and Chicago. Illinois. For the fifth time in 2010. The organization director Gerlinde Krause and music director Manfred Andreas Lipp and the BLFA camps have shared many years of combined, mutual respect and friendly cooperation.

This year the great Youth Orchestra was brought to Marenisco as part of the Cultural Exchange Program. They arrived here through the efforts Bruce Mahler. He knew they were available and he pursued the group and never gave up on bringing the youngsters to our area. Bruce is an example of how to accomplish great things. Great things don’t fall into lazy laps.

While in Marenisco the young musicians stayed with host families, an experienced enjoyed immensely by all. Saturday many of the kids visited the Porkies and swam in Lake Superior.

The Youth Orchestra is to European music as is an Olympic training camp to an athlete. These young musicians are on their way to the pros. They are extremely well disciplined musicians and it shows. The director is the director and the musicians follow. Not one musician used their feet to keep time. Their ears listened to the percussionists who were taking their lead from the Director.

The Stadtkapelle Wertingen was founded by the Wertingen association on the 22nd of October. 1962. The Stadtkapelle Wertingen committee offers a wide variety of musical instruction in the region. They work together with the music school in order to train students. After a short period of training, the students are chosen to play together in the Vororchester (pre orchestra) and play under the direction of Karolina Werle. After regular rehearsal. they perform in many events. After 2 to 4 years of involvement they have a good basic foundation in music and by the age of 12 to 14, they advance to the Youth Orchestra. where their skills are continually enhanced.

It is this orchestra that entertained more than 400 attendees at the two concerts.
The Youth Orchestra continues to have a good reputation when it comes to organized concerts for symphonic brass music and successfully performs in band competitions. Between the ages of 17 and 18 the students advance to the .. Blaserphilarmonie" (symphonic Windband), which is the highest position in the Stadtkapelle Wertingen and is directed by Mandfred Anderas Lipp, who over the last 30 years has shaped the orchestra into one of the top German bands.

The youth orchestra of the Stadtkapelle Wertingen would like once again to be good ambassadors for their homeland Germany.
