The Gogebic cross-country running team is looking forward to a
strong season. In only its second year, the program continues to
grow in numbers and improve in speed. At last week's Michigan Tech
Collegiate Opener, the Samsons (the only two-year college in the
field) placed third out of four teams, falling to host Michigan Tech
and Wartburg from Iowa and besting Finlandia University.
"I was impressed with how well they ran for their first meet," said
Coach Will Andresen. "We had a nice group running together and
supporting each other, with less then a minute separating the top
five runners."
Team members include Dominic Beckman, Mike Gering, Ryan Goings, Sam
Kolesar, Ben Noren, Kyle Pallin, Lucas Scherer, Kari Strand and Kyle
Weber.
Gogebic will travel to the University of Minnesota-Duluth this
Saturday and then to the Warhawk Invitational in Whitewater on
September 18th. After a week off, they will compete at the
Northland Invitational on October 2nd and in the Cruising the
Corridor open race on October 9th. Their season will end on October
22nd at the UP Collegiate Finals at Northern Michigan University.
"We will start adding more speed work this week and hope to be
running our best for the UP Finals", said Coach Andresen.
