IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - In a special meeting yesterday afternoon, the
Ironwood Township Board of Trustees awarded the last contract of the
Sewer Project to Snow Country Contracting. The last part of the sewer project being bid on was the installation of sewer lines, laterals and three manholes at the intersection of Sunset and Lake Roads. Two bids were received. The first was from Ruotsala Construction, the company that has installed the sewer lines on the current project. The second bid was received from Snow Country, the company that has been doing the work on the current water project. The difference in the bids was significant and there was some concern as to that difference. However, in a telephone conference with Marv Winber, P.E. the Board Members were told that it was the unit pricing that the contractor would be obligated and not the cost overall. The Board members were also advised that the USDA would not entertain paying the higher bid and that if the Township officials chose the higher bid, the Township would be held responsible for the difference over the low bid. Snow Country's low bid was $28,865, Ruotsala's bid was $46,291. The Board voted unanimously to accept the low bid. It is believed that the small project will be completed by Tuesday. |
