34th Annual Ewen Log Jamboree

EWEN – The town of Ewen celebrated the 34th annual Log Jamboree this weekend. The Event began Friday with a soup and sandwich luncheon at Centennial Hall. A bake sale and craft fair were also held at the hall. Friday evening the Ewen-Trout Creek School hosted the Log Jamboree Variety Show with Captain Al and other local favorites.

Saturday morning the celebration moved into high gear with the annual Log Jammers parade. Following the parade the entertainment continued at Centennial Hall. At the hall there were a lot of amusements for the kids, the craft fair for the adults and the annual favorite the “Sheer’s Log Rolling Show”.

The Ewen firefighters also donated the “Bounce House” for the youngsters. A center of attraction for the kids, it remained a busy place throughout the afternoon. Another big hit was the casting contest for the children. Casting successfully into a bushel basket would get the young fisherperson a prize. Needless to say that the fishing rods were the first prizes to disappear. Ontonagon Valley Sportsmen’s Club sponsored the both the Casting Contest and the Minnow Races. There was a coin scramble for the children and there was no shortage of kids participating in that event.

This year The Ewen Fire Department, along with other sponsors, gave away 12 children's bikes. Kids ages from 3 years to 16 years old were eligible for the drawings for the free bikes.

Members of The Ewen and Bruce Crossing Fire Departments held Firefighter races downtown. These are the same competitive races held at the annual Firefighter’s Tournament each year.
The celebration concluded in the evening with a dance and music provided by “Borderline”.
