Gogebic Community College Cross Country Running Team

After a week off, the Gogebic Community College cross-country running team was back faster than ever at the Northland College Invitational on Saturday. The Samson's placed sixth out of the seven team field of four-year colleges. Lakehead College won the meet with 37 points, followed by St. Scholastica (70), North Central College(92), University of Wisconsin-Superior(96), Bethany Lutheran (113), Gogebic Community College (136) and Northland College (146).

In the 8 kilometer men's race, Dominic Beckman led the Gogebic squad in 30:15, followed closely by Kyle Weber in 30:18, Kyle Pallin in 30:38, Ryan Goings in 30:43, Lucas Scherer in 30:44, Mike Gering in 36:36 and Sam Kolesar in 36:48.

In the women's 6 kilometer race, Gogebic's Kari Strand placed 23rd out of 60 runners in an impressive 26 minutes and 24 seconds.

"I was real proud of how well we did as a team against this strong field" said Coach Will Andresen, noting that Gogebic's top five runners in the men's field all finished under 31 minutes, with only 28 seconds separating them. "I was even more impressed with the fact that seven of our runners had personal best times. They really flew today. Their hard work and dedication is definitely paying off."
