The Home Coming excitement began Thursday afternoon at the
Wakefield Marenisco Gymnasium. There this year’s seniors were
joined by their schoolmates from the elementary, Middle and High
School. As we’ve seen elsewhere, it’s the younger students from
the Elementary School that are the driving force behind all the
excitement. They definitely energize all everyone else in the
room.
The band was on hand playing for the students in the stands and
Mrs. Genisot not only led the band, but also served as the
Number One Cheer Leader along with the Cardinal mascot. The kids
had some interesting games that they played and those can be
seen on the video. Members of the Varsity and JV Teams were
introduced to the audience as well as their corresponding cheer
leader squads. The Master of Ceremonies for the Rally was Travis
Boetto.
Friday evening there was a Home Coming Parade through downtown
Wakefield. The students finished their march at the Wakefield
School.
At that point everyone went inside to watch the Coronation
Ceremony.
This year the Honorary King and Queen were James Engel and his
wife Denise Engel. Jim is a teacher in the Wakefield Marenisco
School and Denise is the Library Director of the Wakefield
Public Library.
Michael Dalbec was this year’s Home Coming King and Rachel
Winkler was crowned this year’s Home Coming Queen. Members of
the Home Coming Court were: Dakota Easley, Savanah Uhlig, Travis
Boetto, Alyssa Anderson, Henrique Do-Ameral Carvalho, Amanda
Dewitt and Lynnea Laessig.
The Master of Ceremonies for the Coronation Ceremonies was Pat
Libertoski.
When the Bessemer and Wakefield-Marenisco School Districts opted
for a co-op Football program did they contemplate the advent of
a two Home Coming Game Season? While each school has its own
home coming king and queen and pep rallies, it is one football
team that has two home coming games. That of course raises the
possibility of winning two home coming games in one season, and
regrettably it also provides the opportunity of losing two home
coming games in one season.
The Speedboys had the misfortune of playing two playoff bound
teams this year and each game was a home coming event. Saturday
the Speedboys played Forest park at Cardinal Field in Wakefield.
The weather was beautiful; a great afternoon for High School
Football. If the final score were reversed it would have been a
perfect day.
The first half of the game belonged to the Forest Park Trojans,
blanking BWM 35 – 0. Forrest Park had 249 rushing yards in the
first half. The Speedboys had only 24 rushing yards by half
time. The Speedboy offensive line did a good job of giving their
quarterback time to the throw the ball.
In the second half the Trojans added just one more touchdown and
the Speedboys scored their lone touchdown towards the end of the
game. The final score was Forest Park 41 BWM 8.
Now the BWM fans can look forward to the possibility of winning
two home coming games next season.
