With respect to the stimulus package Stabenow told the group that although slower than might be liked, signs of recovery are evident throughout Michigan, especially here in the U.P. where tourism has shown a marked recovery. The Senator also told the audience that the loan to GM has been very helpful here in Michigan and that the auto industry remains our number one priority; and that what happens here effects small businesses and thousands of jobs throughout the U.S. She told of meeting a Small Business Owner from South Carolina who told her that he provided the Auto Manufacturers with textile goods that were used to make automobile seat covers.
