Bessemer Council Makes Quick Work of Agenda Items
The Bessemer City Council met last night in what might have been the groups quickest meeting; having lasted just under fifteen minutes. During that time the Council approved the minutes of the previous meeting, approved paying claims, and considered new business items: MERS RESOLUTION: HEALTH RETIREE EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTION MERS has provided a resolution to facilitate employee contributions (beyond the defined City contribution) to the individual health retirement accounts. The Council unanimously approved the resolution.

The next item to be considered and approved by the Council was the re-appointment Glen Pavlovich, to the Gogebic Range Water Authority.
The Council then passed a Resolution of Support for SISU SKIFEST 2011 , in as much as they were not asked for a donation the resolution was passed unanimously. Of course such a donation is illegal in Michigan and that is the basis of the State Police Investigation into last year’s alleged ethics violations. Two Ironwood Commissioners and the City Manager are subjects of a probe that focuses on their routing city money and equipment into an organization that they were both founding and acting directors.

In as much as the Bessemer business owners did not suffer financial loses as did downtown Ironwood business owners, there seemed little reason for the Bessemer Council not to approve the contrived resolution.
