Stimulus Grant:
Keeping  Gogebic Riders Dry

The Gogebic County Transit (GCT) or better known as the “Little Blue Bus” has been the recipient of another ARRA grant. The taxpayers and residents of Gogebic will find traveling on the Little Blue Bus a lot more comfortable this winter and any time that they must travel in poor weather. That is because the GCT has installed three new covered bus waiting booths this year. Each of these units cost $15,000 and all three were paid by an ARRA (STIMULUS) Grant. Jim Mildren, the GCT Director told us that not one penny of local money was used for the project, as the grant was made up of  100% Federal money, and NO local match required. None – Nada!

The two shelters installed earlier are in Marenisco, by the baseball field. Another is located at Nordine Plaza in Watersmeet. The final unit was just installed yesterday in Bessemer it is located on Sophie Street by the Secretary of State Office. Some red tape was involved with getting the SOS to sign off on the project, mainly regarding insurance procedures. But, the folks at the SOS were helpful in getting everything done on time. The property is owned by Jeff Weir, who is happy to permit the shelter on his property. Helping to keep the people of Bessemer dry! Up until now the Little Blue Bus has been picking up Bessemer passengers at the corner of Mary and Sophie Street sixteen time a day for thirty one years.

Ironwood has the downtown bus depot and Wakefield passengers as well as the Indian Trail Bus passengers are picked up at the Wakefield Holiday Station, where they can be found sipping coffee at the Gourmet Coffee Bar!
