Santa Needs Your Help!

With Thanksgiving just three weeks away, thoughts are already focusing on the Christmas holidays. In Gogebic county that will mean a great deal of work for the volunteers that will make Christmas brighter for all of the Counties children.

Again, Santa Central will gather toys, blankets and other items for those that might not otherwise enjoy the basics at Christmas time.

This year as in years past the memorial building in Ironwood will serve as  headquarters for Santa. Yes Virginia, Santa, right here in Gogebic County.

Santa Central will open on December 8th.

Santa will need some assistance from caring county residents, as  donations are still needed for this important program. You can help by donating toys, food certificates, blankets and cash.

This event will again provide presents for approximately 500 of the area's children. Each child will receive hats, mittens and blankets. They will also receive one major toy and two or three stocking stuffers. The children's family will also receive a food certificate. The major sponsors of the event are the Kawanis Club and St. Vinnies.

According to volunteer, Jim Mildren this is a community wide event with all churches participating. It takes all year to bring the event to fruition.

Last year when we visited the Memorial Building Auditorium we found Jim and co volunteer Garson Ross, busy getting ready for the big moment. Last year as in the past the kids from A.D. Johnson and the ROTC were on hand to help get things ready for Santa's Headquarters to open
