Shop With a Cop Bowl Off Fundraiser

HURLEY - Members of the Ojibway Correctional Facility Employee Club have sponsored the “Shop With a Cop Bowl Off”.  This year the American Legion Lanes in Hurley have Co-Sponsored the event.  The Legion provided the lanes for the event at a greatly reduced cost, allowing more of the proceeds (100%) to go to kids and that of course is the purpose of the event.

Each year local school counselors recommend students for the program. The kids have breakfast with a law enforcement officer and then go shopping for Christmas gifts. The shopping takes place at the Commons Plaza and the Walmart store. The merchants participating in the event provide discounts for the goods purchased for the program.

The organizers for this year’s fundraiser were: Steve Lehto, Jr.(above), Marc Behrendt, and Pete Yon.
The Bowl off began early, with the first game starting at 10:00 AM. The games continued until 9:30 in the evening. Those participating had a good time and had the satisfaction of knowing that they were benefiting a terrific cause. Each Bowler paid $15. To participate in the fundraising event.
In addition to the games, funds were raised by drawings for prizes. One prize was a $200 bowling Ball.
