In fact, a trip through Ironwood's Memorial Building makes you
wonder if Students from Ironwood Schools haven't done more than their
share in the defense of our nation.
The Veterans Day
program was held in the gymnasium of Luther L. Wright High
School. The program began with the opening remarks and
introduction made by Cadet LTC Nick Heikkila.
Following his remarks, the JROTC Color Guard presented the
Colors.
The LLW hIgh School Band under the Direction of Steve Boyd,
played the National Anthem and "The Marine Corps Hymn" The
Marine Corps celebrated its
235th Anniversary on Wednesday.
The solemn moment of the program came after the Introduction
of the guests, and that was the tolling of the bell and the Roll
Call of the Deceased. Cadet SFC Alyssa Schwab read the Roll and
was followed by a moment of silence and the playing of Taps by
Ashley Rahko and Bradley Torni.
The High School Choir under the direction of Denise Woodward
sang "God Bless The USA"
The Veterans Day program came to a close with the retirement
of the colors.
Flowers have been donated annually for the past 13 years for the
Veterans Day Program by the Trudgeon Family. The flowers are
donated in the memory of a deceased veteran. This they are in
remembrance of Waino "Whitey" Walkonen.
