Polar Bear Squirts Defeat Ashland & Negaunee

Travel to Iron Mountain for Tournament Next Weekend

IRONWOOD - January 31, 2011

The 20 and 0 Polar Bear Squirts went into this weekend challenging their 10 and 1 counterparts from Ashland. On Sunday, the 22 and 0 Squirts hosted the Iron Range team from Negaunee. Sunday night the Squirts went to bed with a 24 and 0 record for the year.
The Squirts won both Sunday Games, 13-1 and 9-1. The scoring might have been higher yet had it not been for some good saves by Travis, the Negaunee Goalie.
 
In Sunday’s doubleheader with Negaunee the Polar Bears scored quickly against the Iron Range Scoring within three minutes in the first game. With three minutes and thirty-nine seconds to go in the first period the Polar Bears scored their second goal of the game. Just thirty seconds later the Polar Bears scored yet again. Shortly after, the Bears would score once more to close out the first period 4-0.

Two minutes into the second period the Polar Bears scored once again. The Polar Bears scored again with just over eight minutes remaining in the second period. At the end of the second period the score was eight to nothing.

Forty-five seconds into the third period the Negaunee Iron Range scored their first and only point of the game. With just over one minute later the bears would score their first point of the third period, making the score 9-1. The Polar Bears would score four more times to finish the game with a 13-1 victory.

One minute and thirty seconds into the second game the Polar Bears scored their first goal. The Polar Bears would score three more goals within the next five minutes and would have a 4 -0 lead going into the second period. Negaunee scored their only point four minutes into the second period.

The Polar Bears led Negaunee 6- 1 at the end of the second period.

The Bears would score three more points in the final period to win the game by the score of 9 – 1.

The Polar Bear Squirts defeated Ashland Saturday 8-0, 6-4, and Negaunee Sunday 13-1,9-1. Matthew Clemens was in net for all 4 wins including 1 shutout. Goals were scored by Tyler Morrison (12), Ethan Roehm (8), Caleb Baxter (4), David Collins and C.J. Sorensen each with 3, Nathan Garnell and Tommy Lundin each with 2, Sydnee Lorenson and Brett Heil each with a goal. Assists were tallied by Baxter and Garnell each with 6, Heil (5), Morrison (4), Roehm, Lorenson, David Collins, and Sorensen each with 3, and Travis Collins had 1 assist. " The players really turned it up this weekend, we are looking forward to the challenge of the iron Mountain tournament next weekend." said coach Scott Kellett.
