MTU women's basketball rises in national polls

The women's basketball team moved back up to No. 8 in the latest USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Coaches Poll. The Huskies won two games last week and jumped up from its spot at No 10 last week. Tech has been in the top 10 for five straight weeks, including a season-high ranking of No. 8 two weeks ago.

Michigan Tech defeated Northwood 85-66 last Thursday (Jan. 27) before beating Hillsdale 63-52 on Saturday (Jan. 29). The Huskies improved to 10-0 at home and extended their home winning streak to 24 games dating back to Jan. 2, 2010.

The top 25 poll features two teams from the GLIAC in Tech and Grand Valley State (No. 22). Joining those two teams from the Midwest Region is No. 14 Quincy from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll is selected weekly by members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Michigan Tech, which has been nationally ranked in every poll since Jan. 22, 2008, will play two road games this week. The Huskies travel to GLIAC South Division-leading Findlay Thursday, Feb. 3, and Wayne State Saturday, Feb. 5.
