Hancock – March 1, 2011: Finlandia’s Brittany
Garland (Long Beach, California/Harbor CC) claimed the
Most Valuable Player Award at the 2011 Finlandia
University Dome Softball Tournament in Marquette,
Michigan.
Garland, a junior pitcher, won the honor after the
participating coaches placed their votes at the
conclusion of the three-day event. Garland was a force
on the mound and in the batters box all weekend for the
Lions.
At the plate, Garland batted .563 (9-16) with 2 grand
slams, 2 steals, and 13 runs batted in. The 13 RBI’s
were a tournament best total. She posted a .600 on base
percentage and a 1.125 slugging percentage in six games.
On the mound, Garland was a workhorse as she threw a
tournament best 37 innings with 5 complete games. She
posted 2 wins with 18 strikeouts.
