Wind Damage extensive

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP May 10, 2011

Strong winds caused damage and inconvenience around the area yesterday. Trees snapped like toothpicks then falling on structures and parked cars alike.

In Ironwood Township Lake Road was temporarily closed north of Airport Road when a tree fell across the road. According to Gogebic Deputy Josh Elias a motorist had winch and used to pull the tree off one lane. Traffic was then able to proceed with caution along Lake Road. That tree did take down a power line as it fell to the ground, causing power to be disrupted in the area. Power was restored two hours later when an Xcel Energy crew arrived at the scene.

The Kramer Track and Field Meet scheduled for Monday has been rescheduled for Tuesday May 10 at 2:00 p.m.
