The Luther L Wright music
students under the direction of District Music Director,
Steve Boyd performed their spring concert Thursday
night. The annual concert titled “Jumpin Into Spring”
was performed at the Historic Ironwood Theatre.
As usual Band Director Steve Boyd had his young
musicians prepared to give an outstanding performance.
This was perhaps the best concert yet.
During the concert Boyd would present awards to
excelling students and those that went on to state
competition. Also recognized were the Honor Roll
students that play in the bands. Almost every band
member on stage had been on the Honor Roll this year.
Almost all, if not all the members of the Ironwood Quiz
Bowl Team are members of the band.
The first performance of the evening was buy the
sixth grade band. They began by playing five songs from
their Essential Elements 2000, Book 2; "Comin' Round the
Mountain," "Sea Chantey," "The Galway Piper", "American
Patrol," and "The Marines Hymn."
The band then played “Taking My Walrus for a Walk”.
Vanessa Nasi, performed a Guitar solo, playing the
“Theme from the Munsters”
Kathleen Mieloszyk, and Corissa Mattson played a
clarinet duet “ Spanish Dancers”
The sixth grade band concluded its performance
playing “Wipe Out” that featured an exciting drum solo
by Josh QueIlo.
The Middle School Band performed next. They began
their performance by playing “Soldiers Procession and
Sword Dance” The band played two more familiar songs,
“Rocky Top" and the ”William Tell Overture”.
Following awards and student recognition, the Middle
School Band concluded their portion of the concert
playing “Joshua”
The LLW Dixieland Band performed one song, “St James
Infirmary” before the High School Band took the stage.
The High School Band opened their exciting
performance playing “Cossack Folk Dances” and "Celtic
Gathering."
After another awards presentation and further student
recognition, the High School Band closed their
performance and the Spring Concert playing “Black Tower
Overture.”
