Ironwood Bands "Jump Into Spring"

IRONWOOD - May 13, 2011

The Luther L Wright music students under the direction of District Music Director, Steve Boyd performed their spring concert Thursday night. The annual concert titled “Jumpin Into Spring” was performed at the Historic Ironwood Theatre.

As usual Band Director Steve Boyd had his young musicians prepared to give an outstanding performance. This was perhaps the best concert yet.
During the concert Boyd would present awards to excelling students and those that went on to state competition. Also recognized were the Honor Roll students that play in the bands. Almost every band member on stage had been on the Honor Roll this year. Almost all, if not all the members of the Ironwood Quiz Bowl Team are members of the band.

The first performance of the evening was buy the sixth grade band. They began by playing five songs from their Essential Elements 2000, Book 2; "Comin' Round the Mountain," "Sea Chantey," "The Galway Piper", "American Patrol," and "The Marines Hymn."

The band then played “Taking My Walrus for a Walk”.

Vanessa Nasi, performed a Guitar solo, playing the “Theme from the Munsters”

Kathleen Mieloszyk, and Corissa Mattson played a clarinet duet “ Spanish Dancers”

The sixth grade band concluded its performance playing “Wipe Out” that featured an exciting drum solo by Josh QueIlo.

The Middle School Band performed next. They began their performance by playing “Soldiers Procession and Sword Dance” The band played two more familiar songs, “Rocky Top" and the ”William Tell Overture”.

Following awards and student recognition, the Middle School Band concluded their portion of the concert playing “Joshua”

The LLW Dixieland Band performed one song, “St James Infirmary” before the High School Band took the stage.

The High School Band opened their exciting performance playing “Cossack Folk Dances” and "Celtic Gathering."

After another awards presentation and further student recognition, the High School Band closed their performance and the Spring Concert playing “Black Tower Overture.”
