Look Grandma No Dust

Just lots and lots of mud!
BESSEMER, MI - May 31, 2010

"Do you like mud racing" one Washington School fourth grade student asked? Then she and her four classmates said, almost in unison, “I love Mud Racing!” Nine year old boys are notorious mud lovers and now their female counterparts also enjoy the stuff.

Members of the Gogebic Range Trail Authority held ATV Mud Races Saturday in Bessemer.

The inaugural event was well attended, and was well received by the participants, male and female alike. Hundreds ATV and UTV riders from all over the Midwest were in the area this weekend for the Hurley Memorial Day weekend ATV parade and other motor sport activities.

The GRTA mud run gave many visitors one more event to watch or to participate in.
Many local residents were also watching and/or  participating in the event.

The mud pit, located behind Stempihar’s BP Station, was more than just a pit. It was a 150 foot race course with four hills and three mud pits filled with water and mud.

For two days, Tom Schneller, Snow Country Contracting, watered down Trail 2 from Ironwood to Bessemer, alleviating any dust problems for concerned residents.

Free raffles and prizes were awarded throughout the race day as there were a great many area businesses that contributed cash and prizes to the event. Many more individuals volunteered their labor to make the event successful.
