Washington School Students Plant
Flowers at City Hall
BESSEMER – June 2, 2011
Washington School fifth grade students were at City Hall
yesterday, not for a civics class, but to plant flowers.
The students, worked with area Master Gardeners,
planting flowers in front of and behind the building.
Pictured above Master Gardener Gordon Frase instructs
the fifth grade students planting along the road behind
the city hall building.
Flower planters missing from last year’s planting were
once again part of the project. The large wooden
planters that use to line Sophie Street have been
replaced with small Hurley look alike containers. Except
for the vacant buildings on Sophie Street one might
think they were strolling down Silver Street.
Once again, Bessemer students worked in unseasonably
cold weather.
Bessemer’s Public Works employees moved quickly to move
the flower planters to their intended spots along
“Sophie Street”.
