Student Earns Academic All-District Honors

HOUGHTON - June 8, 2011

Track and field athlete Melanie Hoffman earned Capital One Academic All-District second-team honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Hoffman (Green Bay, Wis./Pulaski) placed eighth in the heptathlon at the GLIAC track and field championships this season. Her score of 3,859 established a school record. She has a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in exercise science.

Hoffman was one of five women from the GLIAC to earn the award.

The Capital One Academic All-District and All-America teams are nominated and voted on by CoSIDA members across the country. To be eligible for the Academic All-America program, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA or higher, must have completed two semesters at their current institution and must not be freshmen or redshirt freshmen (eligibility).

CoSIDA’s College Division District IV encompasses all student-athletes from non-NCAA Division I institutions in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
