The Gogebic Ontonagon
Community Action Agency hosted the third annual Senior
Expo at the Ontonagon Area School last Friday.
The event included many healthcare providers as well as
other groups that focus on the needs of senior citizens.
The event drew a full house of seniors who were treated
to some wonderful country and western music performed by
Country Classics, a C&W group that is seven members
strong. The musicians entertained those seniors dining
at the expo.
pictured above is Dodie Rautiola, GOCAA. Rautiola was
the event organizer.
Visiting the seniors Friday, were
State Representative Matt Huuki and State Senator Tom
Casperson. Both Casperson and Huuki addressed the lunch
time gathering.
Preceding Huuki and Casperson was the GOCAA Director
Carolyn Carlson, pictured above.
Carlson told the group that 25% of the counties’
population is made up of senior citizens.
Carlson stated that she hoped the legislators understood
that both GOCAA and Senior Services were funded by a
millage, indicating the importance of those services to
the counties’ residents. That she is hoping that the
legislators would remember that when considering the
agencies appropriation.
Casperson told the group of his own personal experiences
and that he understood the need for senior services.
Huuki, repeated his belief that if we create a healthy
business climate that attracts business and jobs, that
most of today’s concerns would be remedied.
