BESSEMER - June 16, 2011 The Bessemer City Council met
Monday primarily to conclude contract negotiations with
the City employees.
Prior to going into closed session the council
members discussed blight issues that were the focus of
the previous council meeting.
The city has advised the county that it wished to
take possession of 1717 Hadley prior to the August Tax
Auction.
The city officials intend to demo the dwelling and then
add the demolition costs to the tax bill. The Dwelling
will then go to the August Tax Auction.
Another blighted dwelling located at 213 Second Avenue
will also go to auction in August.
The council unanimously authorized City Manager Tom
Chatel to notify adjacent property owners of its
availability and see if any of them are also interested
in the property.
The Council went into closed session to discuss
contract negotiations and to discuss GRWA matters.
The Council and the Union came to an agreement over
the revision of their health care plan.
Those items of agreement were:
Chiropractic visits reduced from 24 per year to 12

Three-tier drug card at $10/$40/$80
City maintains out-of-network services, coverage
equivalent to PPO Community Blue Plan 2 with respect to

Effective on the date the new health coverage commences,
