IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - June 16, 2011 The 2011 Samson and
Lady Samson Basketball Clinic that began Monday will
conclude today. More than 110 boys and girls, grades
three through twelve participated in the annual youth
basketball clinic that is held at the GCC Lindquist
Center.
When asked how long has the clinic been operating
co-director Dennis Mackey told us that this is the
twenty fifth year that he has been associated with the
clinic and it was being operated before he came on
board.
The clinic is being conducted by G.C.C. Samson Coach
Mackey and his co-director Lady Samson Coach Stephanie
Justinak. Mackey and Justinak were aided by former,
current, and future Samson & Lady Samson Players.
The G.C.C. Samson and Lady Samson Basketball Clinic
seeks to offer a sound foundation for beginners and a
strong challenge for advanced players. The coaches help
participants become better players and more disciplined
athletes. The staff gives detailed attention to
individuals in ball handling, passing, dribbling,
defending, rebounding, and shooting. "Our coaches will
develop an awareness of each player's strengths and
weaknesses and work with him or her to become an
“improved player" said Mackey.
The clinic operates each year for four days and is
offered to boys and girls in the third through twelfth
grades. In each of the four days there are 3 on 3 or 5
on 5 games played along with daily individual contests
featuring ball handling and shooting, as well as
fundamental stations and drills.
