Wednesday night was Malt Shop Memories night in downtown
Ironwood. The Klassic Kruisers brought their classic
cars to Ben’s Place for public viewing. The show was
opened to anyone wishing to enter their classic car and
the show included two trophies for the first and second
place People’s Choice winners.
Inside Ben’s Place a large crowd gathered to enjoy
classic cheeseburgers, French fries and malts.
There were more memories than malts and music last night
for Ben and Jeanne Walton. There were memories
accumulated over the last thirty five year at Ben’s
Place. The memories will cease to accumulate Friday,
when Ben and Jeanne begin their retirement and turn over
the keys to Toni Ratkowski who will begin accumulating
her own memories as she takes over ownership of Ben’s
Friday morning.
Ratkowski has waanted a place of her own for a long time
she said. After decades of catering and bartending,
she’s ready for taking over the helm at Ben’s. Toni’s
son, McKenzie is ready too. He has been working at Ben’s
learning the ropes for the past month.
Ben and Jeanne sponsored last night’s car show and
presented the trophies for the people’s choice award
winners. Receiving the second place trophy, presented by
Jeanne were George and Mimi Kuklinski.
Ben, presented Tom (pictured above) and Sharon
Ravelli with the first place trophy, for their great
looking 31 Ford Model A Roadster.
Following the trophy presentation, the Kruisers drove
the cars through downtown on to Hurley and then back to
Ironwood.
Watch for the Kruisers’ great float in the Bessemer
Fourth of July Parade.
