Commission Accepts Wardynski Resignation
ONTONAGON – July 20, 2011

The Ontonagon County Commission held its July meeting last night. As usual there were a great many items on the agenda. The Ontonagon Commissioners meet but once month as a means of reducing costs to the county taxpayers.
During the public comments portion of the meeting Mr. William Johnson appeared to both criticize the Sheriff’s Department and to ask why he had to pay twice for police coverage. He was referring to the fact that he pays taxes to both the Village and the County of Ontonagon. Johnson was told that his comments would be referred to the Sheriff for a response.

The commission also discussed two other matters with Sherriff Gravier; the Sherriff had received approval to purchase a 2011 Chevrolet police car. However, the vehicle was not available when the sheriff went to finalize the sale. Sheriff Gravier searched MIDeal, a state procuring agency, and found a 2 wheel drive Tahoe police pursuit vehicle. Gravier also wanted approval to sell a 2005 Impala that had not been sold at the recent county sale. The commissioners approved the sale of the Impala.

While discussing these items the commissioner also discussed a grant application for an ORV. The sheriff was seeking approval to request bids for an Off Road Vehicle, specifically a side by side. Since the vehicle was to be purchased with a 100% grant the commissioners unanimously approve the item.

MSU Ontonagon County Educator Frank Wardynski tendered his resignation from the Planning Commission. Wardynski cited his new duties at the extension service as the reason for his resignation. The commissioners accepted his resignation with gratitude for past service and approved posting the vacant position on the planning commission.

Wardynski stated that he would remain with The Ontonagon County Economic  Partnership.
