John Houle, Green Bay, WI, was the top male finisher in the 2-mile event in a time of 13:05. Emily Gheller, Bessemer, won the women’s 2-mile title in a time of 14:17.
Alan Peterson, Ironwood, repeated as the 5-mile champion posting a time of 27:18. Emmy Tuzee, Ironwood, won the female 5-mile event in a time of 36:11.

A total of 178 people participated in this year’s event and featured entrants from all over the United States.

It is always fun to see where entrants come from,” said race director, Chris Bergquist. “This year we had folks from Virginia, Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Upper and Lower Michigan.”

Ray Hallberg won the Longest Distance award traveling 2,016 miles coming from Fair Oaks, CA. John Palutke (76) and Catherine Parisian (73) won the Senior Entrant awards and Emmett Damgard (2.5 months) and Taylor Damgard (4 years), were the Youngest Entrants. Enni Gregas received recognition for being the first entrant.

Door prizes given out during the awards ceremony included sunglasses from Grand View Eye Center, sweatshirts donated by Handsome Prints, tote bags and duffel bags from Aspirus Grand View, cooler donated by Abelman Clothing and handmade washcloth sets donated by Margaret Celeski.

“I want to thank all the volunteers who came out to help with this event,” said Bergquist. “It was a pretty hot morning and the volunteers helped make sure all the entrants were properly hydrated and safe.”
