Emily gets her turn to join the drum line HURLEY - September 4, 2011
Rain Saturday postponed
the Goldenaire’s performance by an hour. For those who
waited for their favorite Drum and Bugle Corps were
appropriately rewarded. The D&B under the direction of
Dan Pitrone gave their best performance of the season.
Saturday’s performance at Festival Italiano in Hurley
was their penultimate appearance for this year.
The Goldenaire’s played their audience’s favorite
military and patriotic songs, including their Armed
Force’s Medley. They also performed popular songs
including a sing-a-long to the tune Sweet Caroline.
Sunday the Goldenaire’s will conclude their 2011 season
at the Labor Day parade in Ontonagon.
The Goldenaire’s were part of a long day of festivities
on Silver Street, Saturday. Several other performers
entertained the crowds at the Italian Festival. Early in
the day Gary and Fred performed at the Associated Bank
Building, providing entertainment to the many people
enjoying Italian Food and Irish beer on Siler Street.
Unlike last year’s frigid temperatures, this year the
weather was perfect right up until 5:00pm when a nasty
weather front moved through, sending everyone for cover.
The rain lasted for a brief period and then it was back
to near perfect once again.
The Up North Connection entertained on the west end of
Silver Street for several hours. The great Bluegrass
group was great as usual.
The entertainment concluded with street dance and a
performance by The Recess Bullies. The rock group from
Houghton was the winner of this year’s Battle of the
Bands held in Ashland.
