Ironwood Historic Theatre - Autumn Open House

IRONWOOD - Last evening the Historic Ironwood Theatre opened its doors to the public for Annual Fall Open House. The volunteers that make the fantastic showcase all that it is, were on hand to greet the visitors that came to enjoy the entertainment and learn more about this important part of our Community.

There three important, very important things that set Ironwood apart from the crowd; other than people that is. One is of course our terrific Community College; the second is our Civic Center and the third is the Historic Ironwood Theatre located in downtown Ironwood. Without these three Cornerstones of our Community, Ironwood would be just someplace else.

The Theatre is as great as it is due to the efforts of volunteers; and it takes many volunteers to make it happen. The open house last night was twofold in purpose, one to open the theatre and its inner sanctum to the citizens of our area and the second purpose was to recruit volunteers.

For those attending the event there were guided tours that brought the attendees to all parts of the building, including the basement. What timing for Halloween. In addition to learning more about our downtown landmark, there was free entertainment and refreshments. How great is that?

As most of our readers know, the theatre had fallen on bad times. However, through the donations of money and manpower by many caring people the Theatre has been remarkably restored to its original splendor. The restoration is ongoing as can be witnessed in the recent changes to the concourse.

Last night’s event at the Theatre was organized by Jackie Powers. Jackie is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Theatre, and she is seeking the enlistment of additional volunteers. The Theatre needs volunteers in all every area of the Theatre’s operation. There is an opportunity for everyone to be a part of this great endeavor. There is a need for: Board Members, a Program Director, a Treasurer, Event Planners, Sound Technicians, a Fund Development Chairperson, Fund Raisers, Office Assistants a Marketing Coordinator and “Gogebic Range Players!”. Yes, volunteers are needed to revive the GRP for 2011. Volunteer; you can do a great service to your community and have a heck of a lot of fun doing so.

In a nutshell, your Theatre could use your help. Needed are people with time, ideas and/or talent. You can get more details by contacting Jackie Powers at (906) 932-1618 or jpowers@ironwoodtheatre.net. If you can’t volunteer, you can help the cause by providing financial aid, either by direct donation or by regularly attending Theatre events.
