Bessemer parents, resident’s and friends, this
was the last Christmas Concert under the
direction of Mary Jo Mykkanen. The very talented
music director is retiring at the end of the

half-inch hoar frost that clung to everything – tree branches, bird
feeders, last summer’s grass stalks, the door to the wood shed – and
SPARKLED in the early morning sun. It was amazing!

Project FeederWatch
by Melanie B. Fullman, US Forest Service
So perhaps you talked to Santa a coupla weeks ago, about buying a
bird feeder for someone else, or putting one on YOUR list. Now, in
addition to merely watching birds, you can help count them! More
than 800 bird species inhabit the United States, for some or all of
each year. They face daunting challenges from environmental threats
such as urbanization, agriculture, pollution, and climate change. No
single scientist or team of scientists could possibly document where
all of them are, or how their numbers change from one year to the
next.

UPPCO Provides "Best Practices" When Using Space
Heaters
Ishpeming, MI) - Electric space heaters can
help homeowners stay warm this winter if used
appropriately and safely. Upper Peninsula Power
Company (UPPCO) reminds customers there are safe
ways and potentially dangerous ways to use space
heaters. There are also substantial energy costs
associated with operating multiple space heaters
in a home or office. UPPCO advises using a space
heater in a smaller confined area or office work
space to provide supplemental heat that the
building's regular heating system cannot
provide.
