Ashland - July 19, 2009 They came, they sang, they conquered.
Yesterday afternoon, Heartland Communications Radio Group, held a Bay Days event, "Battle
of the Bands" . It was truly a great staging of bands from Houghton to
Ashland. A genre' for everyone. It's now10 hours after the concert and
my ears are still ringing from loud, loud, performances. Loud
enough to satisfy the most demanding concert goers, including myself.
The event ended just moments before mid-night and in the end,
Ironwood's Lowell Street Band would be crowd the favorite. Not only
the favorite of the judges, but also the favorite of the huge crowd
that gathered both inside and outside the great tent. |

Festival Ironwood Calls it a
Wrap! |
|
Ironwood - July 19, 2009
Festival Ironwood concluded Sunday after four fun filled days at
the Depot. As usual, there was something to please everyone, in spite
of the bad weather. Lots of events for kids. On the Thursday there was
the Teddy Bear Picnic, hosted by the Carnegie Library. There was the
world's largest duck pond which was continuously busy. Amusements,
face paintings, a sawdust scramble and other events kept the kids
busy. The child registration program was again made available for
parents.
The Festival actually started Wednesday evening. It began with "An
Evening of Bluegrass" with music by Up North Connection. The event was
sponsored by the Ironwood- Hurley Rotary Club.
The music continued throughout the weekend. Following the opening
ceremonies performed by American Legion Post #5, there was live music
provided by Richie Yurkovich & Polkamania. The event was free to the
public and was sponsored by "Friends of the Festival". The teens took
over the dance floor later that evening. A teen dance sponsored by
McKevitt Patrick Funeral Home featured DJ Music by Magnum
