H.O.P.E. Animal Shelter Blessed By Community Support!

No community organization operates effectively without the strong support of people within that community. HOPE Animal Shelter has been blessed to have that kind of support. The HOPE Board of Directors would like to publicly offer a number of thank you's to the community.

First of all, we would like to thank the voters of Gogebic County for overwhelmingly passing the millage levy for the Animal Control Program. Seventy percent of County voters were in favor of the millage renewal, a strong showing of support.

We would like to thank Ann Marie Batiste and the St. Mary’s Catholic Church youth group, Mission Possible, for painting the inside of the shelter with cheery and colorful scenes of animals. Their work brightened up the shelter considerably and illustrated the positive effect that young people can have on their community.

Our recent chicken dinner fundraiser at the Breakwater Restaurant was a smashing success. Our thanks go out to all who purchased tickets as well as to the management and staff at the Breakwater who worked so hard for this event.

Last, but certainly not least, we thank those of the public who come to HOPE to adopt orphaned dogs and cats. You help us to achieve our most important goal: finding loving homes for orphaned animals.

Jim Salmi
Board President – HOPE Animal Shelter

Sign of MDOT Efficiency

Speed limit sign had a screw loose (hmmm) and would it be a surprise to learn, that the City of Bessemer could not fix it. Noooooo. It required special attention from the Imo Limos at MDOT!

No wonder there is a red light in the middle of nowhere for four months and still there is no traffic light at the Walmart intersection. Perhaps the inept MDOT management is not the second worse in the state.

Welcome back!

Connie's of Ontonagon, a business that was part of the devastating fire of 2008, is back!

Labor Day week-end was the re-opening and owner Connie Shamion was excited to finally be back in business.

Hopes had been to be open by the 4th of July, then by the all-school reunion at the end of July but luck was not on her side. There are still a few minor things Connie would like to do but all in all, (the choice of drinks and goodies), all the comments over the week-end were good.

Welcome back Connie and much success!
